Rangers and Hurricanes complete a post deadline trade
It's not often that we get to see a trade completed after the trade deadline passes. That's because players traded after the deadline are ineligible to play in any NHL games for the rest of the year. But that doesn't always stop teams from completing trades as we've already seen when the Toronto Maple Leafs traded, Alex Biega to the Nashville Predators for future considerations. In the case of the Maple Leafs, they were hoping to open a roster spot to potentially sign college free agents.
Today though, the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes completed a trade for two players. The Rangers have acquired Maxim Letunov in exchange for Tarmo Reunanen.
Letunov, 26, has played all of this year for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. He has played only 3 career NHL games, when he was a member of the San Jose Sharks. In 60 games this season he has 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points. Letunov, was drafted in the 2nd round in 2014 by the St. Louis Blues.
Reunanen, 24, has spent the entire year with the Hartford Wolfpack. He was previously drafted in the fourth round by the Rangers in 2016.
Both of these players appear to be searching for a fresh start in their pro careers.
