Shane Wright gives an extremely confident quote on if he should go 1st overall
Top NHL prospect Shane Wright was asked what the Importance of going 1st overall means to him.
It's really important to me. I deserve to be the 1st overall pick, I deserve to have that honor. I believe I am the best player in this draft. I should be taken first overall.
Some may take his comments as being very arrogant but I like to think its earned confidence. He is the consensus top NHL prospect and has been projected to go 1st overall in this draft for a couple years now.
The scouting report on Wright is that he has a strong two-way game, excellent hockey IQ. He processes the game at an extremely high level, and scouts rave about his off-puck positioning. When you think about players who are often in the right place at the right time, this is one of them. With nearly an assist per game on the season, he was a major catalyst for the Frontenacs' offense, even if his goal-scoring wasn't quite where people would have liked it to be. Wright had 32 goals and 62 assists for 94 points in 63 games for the Kingston Frontenacs.
The Habs have the top pick for the first time since 1980 and the event is being held in Montreal. It seems destined that the Canadiens will probably pick Wright and he sounds pretty excited about it.
"[It's] obviously a great, great fan base will probably, if not the one of the best, the best in the entire NHL," "I'd be thrilled to just be part of that."
