Hockey Night in Canada Journalist Elliotte Friedman was on the Jeff Marek Show. He was saying his sources have told him to watch Former NHLer Mike Grier as a potential name linked to the San Jose Sharks GM position. Grier is currently an advisor in Hockey Operations with the New York Rangers. San Jose management want someone who knows the organization.

The over 1,000 game veteran played three seasons for the Sharks during his fourteen year career. Grier spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils during the 2018-2019, & 2019-2020 seasons. San Jose interviewed former Shark Ray Whitney last month for the vacant position.

San Jose Hockey Now reported, before the interviewing process began, that Kevin Weekes appeared to be a strong candidate, while Jeff Marek named John Ferguson Jr. Neither Weekes nor Ferguson Jr. have been confirmed as actually having an initial interview with the Sharks.

Some other potential candidates for the position include Mike Gillis, Sean Burke, Scott Nichol, Mike Futa, and Paul Fenton.

Former GM Doug Wilson officially stepped down in April after 19 seasons on the job because of a medical issue that led him to go on leave in November. Sharks Assistant GM Joe Will has been running the team since Wilson went on leave and will continue in that role until a full-time replacement is hired.
