The Dallas Stars are looking to shore up their back end by bringing in a depth defenceman who may be able to bounce back in a major way if given the right opportunity and roll within their d-corps.
Kevin Weekes of ESPN and the NHL Network is reporting that the Stars are closing in on signing rearguard Will Butcher to a one-year contract. The deal is not done, but, it seems to be a formality at this point.
Butcher, 27, burst onto the scene with the New Jersey Devils during the 2017-18 season, scoring 44 points in 81 games, has never been able to regain that type of production steadily declining every season thereafter.
Last year with the Buffalo Sabres, Butcher appeared in just 37 games scoring just 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists)
Let's hope this contract with the Stars is a turning point in which he can get his once-promising career back on track.
