The Never Ending Search For A Goalie In Arizona..
The Arizona Coyotes are in a bit of bind with their goaltending situation, as it appears only Karel Vejmelka is the only goal tender signed this season so far.
Vejmelka is signed with the Coyotes until 2024-2025, with a cap hit of $2.7 million AAV, and fortunately for Bill Armstrong, they have enough cap to bring another goalie in.
But the question is who wants to play in a College arena?
With the Coyotes on the hunt for another goalie for the tandem, it should be a point to get a veteran, in order to mentor Ivan Prosvetov, when the times come to promote him.
Recently the Coyotes signed the former Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, Harri Sateri after he was waived. Before clearing waivers, Armstrong claimed Sateri after he had signed with Dubas and the Leafs, to his dismay no doubt.
The goalie went 5-0-0 for gold-medal-winning Finland in the 2022 Winter Olympics with a .962 save percentage.
Sateri has nine games of NHL experience. He appeared for 493 minutes on ice for the Florida Panthers in 2017-18, posting a 2.92 goals against average and .911 save percentage.
After signing mid-season with the Coyotes, the 32 year-old netminder had a disappointing end to the season and ended up being shipped back home.
Sateri will be playing with EHC with Biel-Bienne in Switzerland after the ordeal in Arizona.
Which leaves a gaping hole for the Coyotes as a result of the wager.
Who specifically is available at the moment?
Other free agent goaltenders that played NHL games last season include Andrew Hammond, Garret Sparks, Jean-François Bérubé, and Cory Schneider, so the options for the team are limited.
Braden Holtby is also available, but as reported in July, Holtby is working through and injury and didn't take part in free-agency as a result, retirement may even be a possibility for the Stanley Cup winner.
Is it tank for Connor Bedard season yet?
