The Vegas Golden Knights have been devastated by injuries this season. Between the losses of Stone, Eichel, Smith, Martinez, and now goaltender Robin Lehner, the Golden Knights find themselves having to battle for a playoff spot, when they were earlier favoured to win the division. Unfortunately for the Knights, Jesse Granger of the Athletic is reporting that Lehner may miss the rest of the season.
Backup goalie Laurent Brossoit has already been struggling this year, having to spot start for Lehner earlier in the season as well. In 24 games this season Brossoit has posted an .895 save percentage. With that record, the Knights will certainly miss Lehner.
Now down a starting goalie, Vegas may look to add a goaltender at the deadline. The problem for them will be salary cap. Vegas is one of the teams closest to the cap, and have over $20 million in salary currently on LTIR. This hasn't stopped Vegas before from making bold moves.
Some of the goalies available include Semyon Varlamov, Anton Forsberg, Alexandar Georgiev. There's a notable exclusion to Marc-Andre Fleury, because GM McCrimmon recently and vehemently denied rumours of re-acquiring him. At the same time, Vegas' season seems in jeopardy right now, and stability in net will be essential to making the playoffs.
