Dwight Foster, a highly-rated Canadian junior hockey prospect who went on to have a lengthy NHL career has sadly died at the age of 67

A number of NHL teams, as well as one junior hockey team based in Canada are mourning the passing of Dwight Foster.

The Detroit Red Wings, one of the team he spent several years with, have announced that Dwight Foster has passed away at the age of 67.

Foster is a legend within the Kitchener Rangers' organization for his time there when the OHL was known as the OMJHL.

Foster spent four years with the Rangers, scoring 60 goals and 143 points in 64 games in his final year with the team. He still holds the team's record for most point in a season (143), most assists in a season (83), all-time most points (382), and most goals in a game (5).

That made Foster a highly-touted prospect going into the 1977 NHL entry draft. He was taken 16th overall, one spot behind Mike Bossy, who was drafted by the New York Islanders. Foster did two separate stints with the Bruins throughout the course of his NHL career.

Besides Boston and Detroit, Foster also played for the Colorado Rockies/New Jersey Devils. A number of injuries, including shoulder, groin, and knee issues, ended his career after 541 regular season games. He had 111 goals, and 274 points.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dwight Foster.
