Christian Folin, who has played for a few teams in the NHL over the years, has scored a brutal and embarrassing own goal during a semi-final in Sweden.

In the third period of the of game four of the SHL semi-final series, Folin and Frolunda had to take a faceoff in their defensive end. Folin's centre managed to get the puck a short distance away from the faceoff dot, and Folin then got it on his stick with some time to decide what to do it. Folin turned and shot the puck into his own net, beating the surprised goaltender. Folin could only stare into space over what had happened. With his team down by one halfway through the third, he had given Skelleftea a 6-4 lead.

Frolunda actually managed to tie the game at 6 before the end of the third, but lost in overtime, giving Skelleftea a 3-1 lead in the series. It looked like he may have been trying to put the puck behind the net on the play, but didn't realize where he was aiming.

Folin played a total of 244 regular season games in the NHL with the Minnesota Wild, LA Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and Montreal Canadiens. He scored 8 goals and 44 points. Folin left the NHL after the 2019-20 season spent with the Habs and Laval Rocket (AHL). Since then, the blueliner has been playing in the Swedish Hockey League, mostly with Frolunda.
