Former NHLer Jeremy Roenick tells the twisted tale of a long wait for payback after he delivered a sucker punch to then player and now coach Craig Berube

It's been said often that revenge is a dish best served cold. Apparently Craig Berube likes his to be freezing. Jeremy Roenick recently appeared on the Leafs Morning Take podcast to tell a tale about the current head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and his willingness to wait a long time for payback.

According to Jeremy Roenick, Craig Berube waited five years to get his revenge on him after a sucker punch while the two were still players.

"We had a big melle 5-on-5 against Philly and the referee had Berube in his arms, I mean literally locked up and I'm free. And there's chaos everywhere and I'm like, you know, the Devil saying hit him and the Angels saying, no, don't do it... It's going to come back to haunt you well.

Of course, I listen to the Devil, bang and I cold cock him. He chased me around for five years. And he says now he's going to get me."

Jeremy Roenick said for the next five years, Craig Berube, who recently ripped into Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthew, stalked him while he was on the ice, waiting for his opening. He would even stand up on the bench and call for a line change when he saw Roenick on the ice. Roenick added he managed to make a get away each time. The payback would finally come when Berube became a player/coach within the Philadelphia Flyers organization, and Roenick was playing for the team at a shared practice.

"He (Berube) comes in and says what's up everybody, what's up? And I'm like, hey what's up chief? And he says, hey Jer, what's up, puts his hand on my shoulder. How you doing, Jer? Bang! And he hits me with a quick little shot right in the mouth. He goes I told you I'd get you."

During the podcast, Jeremy Roenick was asked about the Toronto Maple Leafs chances of winning a Stanley Cup. Despite his history with Craig Berube, he insisted that if the team buys into his system, they certainly have a chance.

Jeremy Roenick did, however, raise concerns about the Maple Leafs' goaltending and whether the current tandem of Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz could get the team deep in the playoffs.
