Referees force both teams to comeback onto the ice minutes after the game seemed over
This will certainly go down as one of the most controversial games of the season. With 2 seconds remaining in overtime, the Buffalo Sabres had appeared to have scored the game-winning goal. After Buffalo had celebrated the victory, both teams had cleared off the ice and gone to the dressing rooms.
It appeared that no one had any idea that the play was under review until the referees announced that the goal had been disallowed due to an offside play.
That is when things got extremely strange. Both the Sabres and the Oilers had gone to the dressing room and by the sounds of it both teams had begun to undress.
It took the Oilers nearly 5 minutes to return to the ice. After the call was made. The referees resumed the game with less than 20 seconds on the clock.
The game would resume and would ultimately go to a shootout. The Sabres would go onto win the game for a second time.
