NHL Insider provides a heartbreaking update on Mark Stone's playing future, just days after winning his first Stanley Cup
To win the Stanley Cup, NHL players must make great sacrifices. There is no questions, the Stanley Cup is the toughest trophy to win in all of sports. It comes with great recognition, but at a heavy price.
After winning the Stanley Cup last season, Colorado Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog hasn't played a single game. Landeskog is expected to miss all of next season as well after undergoing an additional knee surgery to try and repair the damage done. By all accounts Landeskog's NHL career could be over, but he doesn't regret it for a second.
Now news has begun to leak that Vegas Golden Knight Captain, Mark Stone is entering a similar spot as Landeskog. After winning his first Stanley Cup earlier this week, it now appears there are multiple questions about Stone's playing future. Elliotte Friedman, an NHL Insider shared the following information.
Elliotte Friedman says on 32 Thoughts that Stone remains legitimately and seriously injured and that he is likely to be in and out of the lineup for the remainder of his career.
Stone has already undergone multiple back surgeries in his career and it appears that injury will continue to plague him for as long as he chooses to continue his NHL career. Stone only has 4 years remaining on his current deal and it's difficult to see any situation where he finishes off that contract.
