With goaltender Jacob Markstrom being traded to the New Jersey Devils recently, an insider has revealed why he isn't a Toronto Maple Leaf. If you thought it had something to do with Brad Treliving, you wouldn't be off base.
Just days ago, high profile goaltender Jacob Markstrom was traded from the Calgary Flames to the New Jersey Devils for a rather high price, but after rumours the Toronto Maple Leafs tabled a similar offer, why wasn't he a Maple Leaf? Simple, it's who's in their front office.
According to Sportsnet's Eliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs tabled a comparable offer to that of New Jesery's for Markstrom, but with Brad Treliving now in Toronto, the offer needed to blow the Flames away in order for them to do business with their former general manager.
Can't say I blame the Flames organization for not wanting to deal with the Leafs given the circumstances, but on the other hand, I don't think it's proper for ‘politics' to dictate where players go via trade.
