This one could have been so much worse, but it was still pretty bad all around. A young hockey player has shown the damage from taking a skate blade to the chest during a game that split his pectoral muscle.
19-year-old Jonas Nyhus Myhre was hit in the chest by the skate blade on Thursday in Norway. He was rushed to hospital and required many stitches to close the cut.
"I never saw the wound myself so I pulled up my jersey and asked some teammates if it was bleeding. They had a shock reaction and immediately called for a doctor."
"The chest muscle was split in half." - Jonas Nyhus Myhre
He's not kidding. The cut into the pectoral muscle was deep, and required the doctors to stitch the muscle itself back together, as well as the skin. WARNING: This picture is very graphic. The right shows the wound before it was closed.
Nyhus Myhre was supposed to play for Norway at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships, but that is completely off the table at this point. The incident once again highlights the need to cut-resistant equipment and undergarments in hockey. Nyhus Myhre said as bad as it is, the cut was not far away from his heart.
