Brind'Amour on Canes getting Swept by Panthers; 'That's not What Happened'
While you can likely decipher what he's trying to get at, Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour made a somewhat puzzling comment on his team's performance in the Eastern Conference Final against the Florida Panthers. Following their game four loss last night, which completed a four-game sweep by Florida, Brind'Amour told reporters his team didn't get swept.
"That's the unfortunate part of this, (people are) going to look back and everyone's going to say you got swept. That's not what happened. I watched the game. I'm there. I'm cutting the game. We're in the game...it could have been four games the other way."
It probably could have been, but it wasn't. And now, one of the favourites to win the Stanley Cup has been ousted by the Panthers, who have done nothing but defeat supposedly better teams since entering the playoffs. As for the Hurricanes, Brind'Amour said he still feels like this was a big year for the team.
"I think we took huge steps this year. Coming this far, like I said, with what we're missing is pretty impressive."
The Panthers will face the winner of the Western Conference Final between the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars. The Knights could end that series tonight as they are up 3-0 in the series.
