Father of Blackhawks rookie, former WHLer passes away at 59
We have some sad news to report on in the hockey world this weekend as the Saskatoon Blades have announced the passing of former player Larry Korchinski, father of Chicago Blackhawks rookie defenceman Kevin, at the age of 59.
The Blades released the following statement on their social media accounts on Friday:
"We're devastated to hear of the passing of Saskatoon Blades alumnus, Larry Korchinski.
On behalf of the entire Saskatoon Blades organization, we give our deepest condolences to the Korchinski family. Once a Blade, always a Blade 💙"
"Heartbreaking news for Kevin Korchinski and his family on the passing of his father Larry. #Blackhawks" Charlie Roumeliotis of NBCS Chicago said. Larry Korchinski played for parts of three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Saskatoon Blades before heading to the University of Saskatchewan for three years before retiring.
The thoughts of everyone here at Blade of Steel are with Kevin and the Korchinski family at this difficult time.
