Scary Scene in Edmonton as Zach Hyman Rushes to the Locker Room After Taking a Puck to the Face
Zach Hyman's toughness has never been questioned, and during the Oilers latest matchup with Florida, it was on full display after taking a slap shot to the face.
The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers did battle on Monday night in a rematch of last season's Stanley Cup Finals, and it's safe to say that it still had all the fire and drama that we saw when hockey's biggest prize was on the line.
Early in the game, the Oilers were rolling behind a 2023/24 level performance from Zach Hyman, who tallied not one but two goals to have the Oilers up 4-3 after two periods.
However, that wasn't the biggest story of the game involving the veteran forward, as he would later take a brutal Evan Bouchard slap shot right to the face, forcing him to exit the game.
As the saying goes however, never doubt the toughness of a hockey player, as Hyman returned later in the game rocking a bubble, showing visible scars from taking a puck to the face at an incredibly high velocity.
Before showing Hyman with the bubble, the camera panned up from his bloody jersey, a perfect depiction of just how tough and dedicated these hockey players are, with Hyman no doubt enhancing his reputation with the play.
Despite the Oilers promising work early in the game, they would ultimately surrender a late lead to the defending Stanley Cup Champions as they would fall 6-5 in a matchup that was worthy of the stage of Prime's Monday Night Hockey.
It's unclear at this point whether or not Hyman is going to have some lasting damage or injury from the play, but he toughed it out for his team in a major spot against a very strong opponent, showing just how much every game means to these players in the NHL.
