Brett Pesce's dad tweeted his thanks and goodbye within an hour of Pesce and the Carolina Hurricanes final game this season.

Twenty-nine-year-old Defenceman Brett Pesce spent the entirety of his National Hockey League career in Carolina with the Hurricanes until he became an unrestricted free agent this past July 1st. Shortly after it was learned that he had signed a six-year contract worth $33,000,000, but according to reports Pesce's dad knew he was leaving Carolina after the final game his son played for Canes so much so that he tweeted out that he'd miss Carolina thus almost ruining one of the biggest pieces of news of the summer.

According to Brett, during an interview on the Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast, his dad tweeted within an hour of their season being over after losing game six against the New York Rangers, that he'd miss Carolina. Pesce's wife had to show him the tweet as he rarely uses social media. The result was Pesce reaching out to his dad asking him why he tweeted what he did and apparently after that chat, they didn't speak for about a week.

Ultimately, it all worked out as Pesce grew up in Terrytown, New York, about an hour's drive from Newark where the Devils play at the Prudential Center, but that's not the point.

While the incident was likely all in good fun, athletes weighing their options for their future need to make sure they keep their pending decisions to themselves which is likely what happened here anyway. It's more likely Mr. Pesce saw an opportunity to have his son play closer to home which feels like every parent's dream when their children get an opportunity to play a game for a living.
