According to New York-based reporter Kyle Hall, chatter surrounding Patrick Roy joining the Rangers as their next head coach is 'getting louder'.
Roy, 57, has been wanting to return to the National Hockey League in any capacity in recent years, whether that be as a general manager or behind the bench.
With the Ducks announcing the hiring of Greg Cronin this afternoon, that leaves only two head coaching vacancies for Patrick Roy - the New York Rangers and the Calgary Flames.
Should Roy return to the NHL this summer as a head coach, it won't be his first dance. The Quebec City native coached his former team, the Colorado Avalanche, from 2013 to 2016 and even won the Jack Adams Award in his first season.
Following the 2015-16 season, Roy returned to the QMJHL's Quebec Ramparts as the team's Head Coach and General Manager, which is where he's been ever since. Roy announced earlier this season that it will his final year as the head coach of the Quebec Remparts.
Other candidates mentioned for the New York Rangers' vacant head coach position are former Capitals bench boss Peter Laviolette and recently-fired Predators coach John Hynes, who was a teammate of general manager Chris Drury at Boston University.
The New York Rangers roster is full of talent, even with Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane becoming free agents on July 1st. The team took a bit of a back step this year losing in the first round, but a coach like Patrick Roy could definitely help them get over the hump and into their first Stanley Cup Final since 2014.
