After a red-hot start to the new season, things turned quickly in New York, with the team now dropping 14 of their last 18 games as they find themselves on the bottom of the Metropolitan Division standings.
Unfortunately, things are just going from bad to worse for the Rangers, as they have now revealed that superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin is set to hit Injured Reserve less than a month after signing a massive contract extension.
According to reporter Mollie Walker, Shesterkin has suffered an upper-body injury that will force him to IR, with the team announcing that Louis Domingue will be recalled to the team in Shesterkin's absence.
It's unclear exactly how long No. 31 will be sidelined, but he will miss at least a few games, with the team hoping that Jonathan Quick can spark something in the absence of their former Vezina Trophy winning goaltender.
While Shesterkin has struggled as of late along with the rest of the team, his overall numbers are still solid with a 3.10 GAA and a .906 save percentage, but with the team falling off a cliff, he has been unable to sustain the elite play we've seen from him over the past few years.
We will bring an update on his status and how long he's expected to be sidelined, but for now it appears the Rangers simply can't catch a break, and if he's out for a long time, the season may ultimately get away from a New York team that expected to be Stanley Cup contenders in 2024/25.
