The Pittsburgh Penguins have had the fortune of having both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin part of their team for close to twenty years, however, only twice have they both managed to stay healthy for a full 82-game schedule. While this is unbelievable due to the success they have achieved as a team and as individuals over the years, the two times they played a full slate of games were the only time the Penguins missed the playoffs.
It's absolutely no secret that the Penguins of the last twenty years could be considered a dynasty, which is obviously subjective. However, it's mind-blowing to consider, after all the games that two of maybe the best five players in Penguins history have played that only twice did, they manage to play together for a full season.
For their part, Crosby and Malkin took a team that was destined for some rather difficult seasons and made them relevant again along with some very important and key members which included the likes of Marc-Andre Fleury & Kris Letang to name a few.
While it's become increasingly uncommon for players to play their entire careers with one team, Crosby and Malkin despite it all have managed to keep Pittsburgh their home and the Penguins have been better for it. While it's not done yet, the next step is likely to determine if either or could be first ballot hall of famers.
