Canucks Reporter Continues To Grill Elias Pettersson And JT Miller Despite Push-Back
Despite JT Miller and Elias Pettersson's attempts to put out the fire on their suspected feud, one Canucks insider continued to grill both players and add fuel.
Rumors began to emerge last week that Vancouver Canucks alternate captains J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson were disconnected on how to play effectively together.
Though both men spoke in separate interviews to quash the speculation, it seemed like the media was still dubious about the chemistry between the two stars.
Canucks insider Farhan Lalji appeared on 'SC with Jay Onrait' to suggest he didn't believe the two had smoothed things over.
He explained the fact Captain Quinn Hughes and head coach Rick Tocchet were trying to downplay the story, it was a clear indication that there were still issues below the surface.
"Truly, I think this is a thing and I think it has been for the last few years in varying degrees. Now, I'm not sure anybody told Pettersson and Miller before their recent comments in the last couple of days that head coach Rick Tocchet and Captain Quinn Hughes at times earlier this week both acknowledged that, yeah, it is an issues."
- Farhan Lalji
Farhan Lalji would add that rather than trying to scapegoat the media, JT Miller and Elias Pettersson needed to take ownership in flipping the page and finding a way to play better together.
Lalji would explain Pettersson has not been the same since last year's all-star break and Miller's return this season, while Miller has not had the same effectiveness since his return from a ten-game absence for personal reasons.
"...And you know people have suggested that, okay, they're not putting the two men together out on the power play, but they did play them together short-handed.
Rick Tocchet has put the Lotto Line back together at various times, so whether they're together or apart, the chemistry simply isn't there, and they've got to find a way to work it out between them. Because the thought that there's nothing there, I'm not buying," Lalji added.
To Lalji, it simply means the pair needs to figure out how to hit the reset button and play toward lifting up the team.
