Angry radio host threatens to 'obliterate' the Tampa Bay Lightning after recent decision
The Tampa Bay Lightning recently announced a multi-year partnership with Cox Media Group. With the rise in popularity the move was intended to move Lightning coverage from an AM station, to an FM station with much stronger signal and larger coverage area. While many felt the Lightning were simply following the trend of many pro sports teams, at least one person feels there was a malicious intent behind this and they plan on making it known.
Previously the Lightning games were streamed by NewsRadio WFLA, a talk radio station, which features The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show. While the majority of people saw this as natural progression for the Lightning, Buck Sexton felt otherwise. The following quotes were provided by the crew at Awful Announcing :
There's a news story that's saying that the Tampa Bay Lightning has moved from WFLA as their stationbecause of COVID misinformation.
If this has really happened, this is a goldmine for us. A Florida based team is not going to be on a radio station that we're on because they're accusing us of COVID misinformation?
The Lightning have denied this claim and in all prepared legal documentation provided, the Lightning have shared that their contract had simply ended and they were looking for a new opportunity. That didn't stop the hosts from going on a rant about the team though.
We are going to absolutely obliterate this team. They have no idea, I hope that we have some Tampa Bay Lightning executives listening right now. I want to let you know, preparewe are about to unleash holy hell on you, Tampa Bay Lightning, and you have no idea what you're in for. So if you're listening to us on WFLA in Tampa and you have got friends who work with the Tampa Bay Lightning, you better tell them that they have no idea about the Mack Truck that is about to flatten their teamwe are going to wreck you in a way unlike you have ever been publicly wrecked in your lives.
While the hosts surely has some strong words from the organization, apparently not everyone at the stations views aligned. When the show was later posted online, they omitted every comment made about the Lightning.
