Breaking News - Evander Kane in New York for hearing with the NHL
Since arriving in Edmonton, Evander Kane has kept his head down and focused on simply playing hockey. Despite all the possible distractions caused by his ex-wife, Anna, or his previous contract in San Jose, he's focused solely on playing well. Kane has done just that, he has produces 31 points in 36 games including 16 goals.
But today Kane can't avoid his previous contract, because according to Kevin Weekes, Kane is currently in New York City for his grievance against the San Jose Sharks.
**Breaking News** 🚨 📰
I'm told Evander Kane's grievance with the @SanJoseSharks starts today at 10:30 AM . @espn @NHLNetwork @NHL #HockeyTwitter
The grievance was filed by the NHLPA, Kane's behalf against the Sharks. The Sharks placed Evander Kane on unconditional waivers for the purpose of termination of his contract. By terminating the contract, the Sharks freed themselves from paying Kane approximately 23 million dollars over the next 3 years.
The Sharks claim that they terminated the contract only after Kane breached the AHLs COVID-19 protocols. Kane has denied these claims the entire time. This hearing is likely to have a great impact on the Sharks' salary cap if the NHL rules in Kane's favour.
A decision on the matter is not expected to be reached today.
