Breaking News - Patrice Bergeron makes final decision on if he'll play next year
The Boston Bruins and their fan base have waited with baited breath. As we entered August there were multiple questions about the future of Patrice Bergeron. After an off-season elbow surgery there were real questions on whether or not Bergeron would return for another season.
Today though those concerns were finally alleviated as the Boston Bruins made it official that the Captain would be returning for one more season.
The @NHLBruins have signed Patrice Bergeron to a one-year, $2.5M AAV contract plus an additional $2.5 million in performance-based incentives.
This deal could pay Bergeron up to $5,000,000 if he can achieve all his performance bonuses. This deal also pushes the bulk of his cap hit into next season, leading many to believe this could be the Bruins final attempt at a Stanley Cup before a rebuild.
This deal will leave the Bruins approximately $2,000,000 in cap space with the team still needing to sign Pavel Zacha and potentially David Krejci.
