The Carolina Hurricanes traded defenceman, Tony DeAngelo and a seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for three draft picks on Friday. Ever since the Hurricanes have been looking to fill DeAngelo's spot in their lineup.

According to TSN's Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun the Hurricanes are looking at acquiring the services of San Jose Sharks defenceman Brent Burns or Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jeff Petry.

Both Burns or Petry would definitely be solid pick ups however, both have substantial salaries. Burns, 37, has 3 years remaining on his current contract that pays him $8 million dollars annually. Jeff Petry is a little younger at 34 and is also slightly cheaper with 3 years remaining on his current contract paying him $6.25 million dollars annually.

LeBrun would also say the Dallas Stars are also interested in acquiring Brent Burns.

The Hurricanes have made replacing Tony DeAngelo on the right side a top priority. Two players I believe they've kicked tires on: Brent Burns and Jeff Petry. There are other trade options as well, but something to file away.

Brent Burns has a no movement clause that allows him to be traded to 3 teams, both Carolina and Dallas are on his approved list.
