That's a bold statement to make and it comes from a head coach that is not easily impressed by anything. The regular season has not even started and the Flames seem to love their star winger. Now the Flames have the luxury of deciding who Huberdeau will play with and where he fits in on their top power play unit. Calgary fans almost immediately jumped on the comments made by Sutter and took them as a shot at former star Johnny Gaudreau.
Huberdeau has always had a great offensive talents that's why he was selected the third overall pick in 2011. Last year he put a whopping thirty goals and eighty five assist for a total of one hundred fifteen points. A remarkable achievement. This was the highest amount of assists from a left winger ever. It was a monstrous year for him. He was also the Panthers all-time leading scorer in franchise history so this guy can play.
Jonathan Huberdeau was part of one the biggest trades in the NHL in recent years. Matthew Tkachuck and a fourth round pick were sent to Florida in exchange for Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt, and a first round pick. A blockbuster trade indeed. Many think Florida vastly overpaid in this trade and that the Flames won this trade by a lot. However Huberdeau did not find much success in the last year's playoffs. Time will tell how things work out for both teams. We know Calgary is thrilled to have Huberdeau be apart of their organization for a long time. Especially after such a turbulent off-season for the Flames. Let's see if Huberdeau can continue his high point production in Calgary.
