Evander Kane and the San Jose Dharjs recently came to a settlement in his case against the team. The Sharks terminated Kane's contract last season after claiming he'd breached AHL protocols. Ultimately the Sharks feared that Kane would win the arbitration case and came to their senses and offered him a settlement equalling the money he'd lost.

Before the completion of his case, Kane signed a long-term contract extension with the Oilers. Until the settlement there was a fear that an arbitrator could force the Sharks to honour Kane's deal, thus voiding his new deal.

During today's training camp media availability Kane was asked about his settlement and he was quick to provide an answer on the matter.

"I'm happy it's over and done with." -- Evander Kane on settling his contract dispute with the Sharks.

He joked there will be a Netflix documentary about all the stuff that went on there.

When asked about his new contract and the difficulty of negotiating it, Kane didn't hold back when he went after the salary cap.

The cap is a shitty thing for NHL players, especially a good one.

It's clear Kane was likely unhappy with the amount of money he was able to command on the open market, but you have to believe given his track record that the market for his services was very small. There were reports that only the Oilers and Capitals were willing to take a flyer on Kane and his services.

So was it the salary cap or simply Kane's history?
