First team of the off season announces they've parted ways with their coach
Less than 24-hours after the Detroit Red Wings won their final game of the season, they announced they have parted ways with their Head Coach, Jeff Blashill. The Red Wings released the following statement today:
DETROIT RED WINGS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER STEVE YZERMAN ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THE TEAM WILL NOT RENEW THE CONTRACTS OF HEAD COACH JEFF BLASHILL, ASSISTANT COACH DOUG HOUDA AND GOALTENDING COACH JEFF SALAJKO.
Blashill was named head coach of the Red Wings on June 9th, 2015. Blashill had just completed his 7th season as head coach of the Red Wings. Unfortunately the Red Wings never took a step forward under Blashill who posted a 204-261-72 record. Under Blashill the Wings only made one playoff appearance, where they lost in 5 games.
