Another day in the National Hockey League, another Round of potential Professional Tryouts ready to be handed out. This time, it's someone you might not expect.
The Calgary Flames are in the midst of rounding out their roster before camp begins next week. They are among the teams interested in forward Jake Virtanen to a PTO.
According to Tom Gazzola of TSN and the NHL network, Virtanen has emotional ties to the city of Calgary. He was a member of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen for his entire 4 year junior career. A fit in Calgary would make sense.
This comes after it was rumoured that Virtanen was close to signing a PTO with the Edmonton Oilers, however it appears that Edmonton ultimately decided to go in a different direction.
Virtanen, 26, spent last season on the KHL with Moscow Spartak, scoring 9 times and adding 7 assists for 16 in 36 contests.
