Jesperi Kotkaniemi takes shot at Canadiens fans and media while giving Juraj Slafkovsky advice
When Jesperi Kotkaniemi was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens there were extremely high hopes for the 3rd overall pick. Unfortunately things in Montreal didn't work out for anyone involved and last summer Kotkaniemi signed an offer sheet with the Carolina Hurricanes. The offer sheet, which was the straw that broke the camels back, ensured Kotkaniemi's time in Montreal was done.
The Habs ultimately decided to not match the offer and received a 1st round pick as compensation. Kotkaniemi went onto have another disappointing season in Carolina before eventually signing a long-term deal. Ahead of next season Kotkaniemi has been asked if he had any advice for Juraj Slafkovsky, the Canadiens newest top prospect.
Kotkaniemi took the opportunity to share some advice while also throwing some shade at Montreal media.
I would tell him not to watch TV and to be on social media as little as possible.
The Montreal media will try to drag him into the MUD when things aren't going well. That's how they are.
I wish him every success. I wish he was treated better than me.
It's clear that Kotkaniemi still has a victim mentality about his time in Montreal. Admittedly markets like Montreal are difficult to play in and not everyone is suited for them. That was the case with Jesperi Kotkaniemi, but will it be the same for Juraj Slafkovsky?
In his rookie season in Montreal, Kotkaniemi put up 34 points in 79 games, will Slafkovsky surpass that?
