Ken Holland aggressively pursuing blockbuster trade before season begins
The Edmonton Oilers made it to the Western Conference Final this past season and after seemingly upgrading in net with the signing of UFA goaltender Jack Campbell on the first day of free agency, it seems that they're aggressively trying to pursue a veteran goal scorer to added to their offence.
According to Frank Seravelli of Daily Faceoff and Gene Principe of Sportsnet, the Oiler are looking to add veteran winger Patrick Kane to bolster what at times, can be a stagnant offence.
Kane, 33, has played his entire career with the Chicago Blackhawks organization and last season he played in 78 games collecting 26 goals and 66 assists for 92 points. Salary retention would have to be a part of this deal.
Kane is in the final year of an 8-year contract with a cap hit or $10,500,000. After Kane's bonuses were paid on July 1st, his actually salary for the year is $2,900,000 which would make retaining salary in a trade very compelling for a 3rd party team. If Edmonton misses out on Kane or can't get a deal done before the regular season, their sights could shift to Phil Kessel.
