According to Lou Lamiorello, goalie Cory Schneider will be returning to the New York Islanders system this season.

Schneider played in the AHL for the Bridgeport Islanders last season, in a mentor role and it doesn't look to be changing from the what Lamiorello has said:

"Cory will be coming back. He's an outstanding veteran, did a great job and mentors the young players. He'll certainly be in the minors to help the players along. We'll see him in training camp."

- Lou Lamoriello

Schneider who came off a stellar season in the AHL, posted a 14-11-4 record, with a .921 SV%.

With the Islanders, Schneider made his first NHL start since 2020, in April of 2022, where he would make 27 saves in a win over his old team, the New Jersey Devils.

In the AHL is where he continued to make his presence felt, as he was the netminder of the 2 out of 3 games, Bridgeport would win over Providence in the Calder Cup playoffs, posting a .974 SV%.

With this news, it looks like speculation that he'd be retiring is false, despite his name being on the roster for the Hockey Hall of Fame Classic at Scotiabank Arena.

The Veteran goalie won the William Jennings trophy in 2011-2012, has played in 410 NHL games split across the Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders franchises, with 171 wins and 159 losses, and a career .918SV%.
