Mason Shaw nails Sidney Crosby with a wild high-stick to the head
Last night the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Minnesota Wild 6-4. During the game, Mason Shaw made a bad play. As the puck was coming around the glass in the Minnesota end, Mason Shaw decided that he would try to hit the puck out of the air.
Shaw used his hockey stick to take a baseball swing at the puck. He completely missed the puck and hit Sidney Crosby right in the head. Thankfully Crosby's helmet took much of the blow, and he was okay. It could have been much worse. You can't swing your stick wildly like that. Perhaps Shaw was just caught up in the moment and focused solely on the puck. Check out the replay on the video below.
You must commend Shaw on his effort trying to get the puck out of his own zone. However, he needs to do a better job managing his stick. He could have really injured Crosby badly. The play didn't seem to bother Crosby long-term. He finished the game with two goals and two assists. Somehow the referees on the ice missed this clear penalty, which is odd given that Crosby usually gets every call.
