The Maple Leafs versus Lightning game has been much talked about for the past 12+ hours. Most of the conversation stems around the line brawl in the 3rd period. Before the series even began Sheldon Keefe mentioned the Maple Leafs were already prepared for a "borderline violent series".

While that ominous prediction by Keefe has already come to fruition, it appears the NHL Department of Player Safety is doing their part to try and control the physicality. Today the league issued 3 fines to players after their involvement in the brawl:

Toronto's Wayne Simmonds has been fined $2,250, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Unsportsmanlike Conduct during last night's game against Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay's Pat Maroon has been fined $2,250, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Unsportsmanlike Conduct during last night's game against Toronto.

Tampa Bay's Corey Perry has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Unsportsmanlike Conduct during last night's game against Toronto.

These sort of post whistle incidents are usually common place during the playoffs, so it's interesting to see the league trying to prevent these sorts of actions. The league has also announced that Kyle Clifford will have a hearing for his boarding penalty from last night.
