NHL renders official decision on the Evegeni Dadonov trade
It's been a wild 50 hours since the NHL Trade Deadline for the Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks and Evgeni Dadonov. The Knights had attempted to send Dadonov to the Ducks along with a 2nd round pick to help clear some cap space to remove some of their players from Long Term Injury Reserve. Unfortunately for the Knights, Dadonov had a 10-team no trade list that contained the Ducks.
Now today the NHL has finally rendered their decision and they have voided the trade. The league announced via the following statement:
NEW YORK (March 23, 2022) The National Hockey League announced today that it has invalidated Monday's trade of Player Evgenii Dadonov from Vegas to Anaheim. The trade could not be concluded because Dadonov's contract includes a limited no-trade clause, which has not been complied with.
According to Insiders the Golden Knights have already spoken to other teams about a potential deal, but there seems to be some legality issues they could face with a potential deal.
Big question: What happens next with Dadonov? Lots of rumblings Vegas worked on post-deadline trade options in case deal with ANA was voided. Arizona?
Post-deadline deals are permitted, but would NHL allow in this case? Why should Dadonov be punished and his season ended?
It will be interesting to see how Vegas handles this situation as they are legally required to remove any healthy player from injured reserve as soon as they're healthy. This situation could get very messy for the Knights.
