San Jose Sharks fans boo one of their best players during player introductions
Hockey fans usually love and support their sports teams as much as possible, but when fans feel that a player isn't giving them everything, they can be a fickle bunch. Last season there were multiple incidents where Shark's fans felt that veteran defender Erik Karlsson wasn't giving his full effort.
During last night's home opener the fans decided it was time to let Karlsson know exactly how they feel. As Karlsson was introduced the fans reigned down boos.
Karlsson is entering his 5th season with the Sharks after being acquired in a trade with the Ottawa Senators. Unfortunately for Sharks fans the trade that was supposed to put the team over the top has only netted them a single playoff run and no playoff games in the past 3 seasons.
Karlsson still has 5 years left on his 8 year deal paying him $11,500,000 per season. While the Senators were able to net both Josh Norris and Tim Stutzle as a return in the trade. It will be interesting to see how the Sharks handle Karlsson's deal. Due to the deals structure the contract is virtually buyout proof. So as Karlsson continues to regress, these boos will likely become more commonplace.
