Bo Horvat was named the Captain of the Vancouver Canucks for the 2019-2020 season. Horvat has led the team through the pandemic shortened season and through some tough times for the Canucks. Horvat has been the leader in the locker room and has answered some very difficult questions about the locker room issues.

But since being named captain, the management team and coaching staff in Vancouver has completely changed. With that comes a change in loyalty to the team's leadership group, that includes to Horvat.

Horvat is currently in the final year of his contract with the Canucks and he is looking to cash in on a new deal. Every single day it seems less likely that will be with the Canucks. Now it's being reported by Frank Seravalli that trouble between the two parties began this summer when Jim Rutherford and Patrick Alvin reportedly lowballed Horvat's camp.

Seravalli said Canucks first offer to Horvat was 8 years at 5.125 mill per season.

Other reports have since surfaced that Horvat also felt disrespected when the Canucks prioritized a new deal for JT Miller over himself. Elliotte Friedman offered a similar viewpoint on the negotiations.

Obviously, the Canucks are a team to watch. I despise dealing in absolutes, because I've learned negotiations can change out of nowhere (see JT Miller), but it's not trending well for a Bo Horvat extension.

The Canucks are 2 points out of a wild card slot, so it will be interesting to see what approach the team takes at the trade deadline this year.
