Winnipeg Jets unveil incredible statue for the best player in franchise history
The Winnipeg Jets made a classy gesture by unveiling a statue just outside of Canada Life Center of former Jet Dale Hawerchuk. Dale Hawerchuck sadly passed away from cancer in August 2020. Dale Hawerchuck can arguable go down as the Winnipeg's greatest skaters of all time. He was drafted first overall in 1981 by the Jets. He skated for nine seasons there and remarkably had ninety points or more in eight of those nine season. His talent and leadership for the Jets was exemplary.

Hawerchuck was told shortly before he passed that the Winnipeg would honor him with a statue. That also was a genuine gesture from the Jets. As you might expect, the unveiling of the statue was an emotional moment for family, friends and fans. Sixteen of Hawerchuck's former teammates uncovered the statue for everyone to see. The statue is an awesome resemblance of Dale as captain with the old Jets logo.
It was very sad to hear Dale pass away at such a young age two years ago. What a great move this was by the Jets to honor one of the franchise's all-time great players with a statue. The Jets deserve full praise for this. We all know the city of Winnipeg loves hockey and has a great fondness for star players that have skated there.
