Zdeno Chara makes decision on if he'll retire, announces next move
Zdeno Chara is one of the most imposing defenseman of all time. At 6'9 and 250 lbs. Chara is one of the single largest players to have ever played the game of hockey. When you toss in his mean streak, Chara was a physically dominating presence over the past 25 seasons.
While some expected Chara to look to return after a disappointing 25th season it appears the veteran has thought better of it and has officially announced his retirement from the NHL via his Instagram.
After 25 seasons of professional hockey 1,680 NHL regular season games, 200 Stanley Cup Playoff games, and hundreds of international games I am proud to announce my decision to retire from the National Hockey League. In doing so, I am honored to return to TD Garden today to sign a one-day contract with the Boston Bruins and officially finish my career with the team that has meant so much to me and my family. There are so many people that have helped contribute to my success, including all of you, and I look forward to properly thanking everyone this afternoon.
Chara played for 4 different teams during his NHL career, ultimately winning a Stanley Cup and Norris Trophy with the Boston Bruins.
We wish the best for Big Z in whatever comes next.
