Skinner, 32, had the remaining three years of his contract bought out by the Buffalo Sabres over the weekend and hit the open market for the first time in his NHL career. In 74 games, he registered 46 points (24 goals, 22 assists), 73 penalty minutes and was a minus-two.
After 1,006 regular season games with Carolina and Buffalo, the Toronto, Ontario native is still looking for his first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and now has a really good chance at making his post-season debut next season with the Edmonton Oilers.
If Skinner is able to provide the Oilers with a 20-25 goal season and play 15+ minutes a night, along with some time on the powerplay, this could end up being one of the best free agency signings of 2024. However, only time will tell if Skinner will be a fit in Edmonton.
