Calgary Flames General Manager, Brad Treliving had one of the better off-seasons. Especially when you consider it started on a bit of a sour note.

Both of their 100-point players from last season didn't want to commit long term to the team. Johnny Gaudreau signed with Columbus and Matthew Tkachuk was traded to Florida for a package that included Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar. They signed Nazem Kadri, who is fresh off a Stanley Cup.

Treliving was asked about his successful off-season and this was his response:

"This idea of winning the summer is a load of crap, I think. You try to win in the winter.»

« I'm excited because the players are excited, but all this talk over the summer is just that. Usually when they talk about having a great summer, we're more worried about having a great winter and spring.»

"Number one, to do anything in this league you have to be a playoff team, and you have to earn your way in it. You don't get there any other way, is you have to earn it over 82 games and that's our goal right now.»

Going into 2022-2023 the Flames are arguably even better than the team that won the Pacific division last season.

The C of Red will be rocking on October 13th, when the Flames host the Colorado Avalanche to open the season.
