Jay Woodcroft turned the Edmonton Oilers around last season, taking them into the Western Conference Finals. They even put up a respectable fight against the current Stanley Cup Champs, the Colorado Avalanche.

However, his coaching hasn't seemed to save the once-redeemed, Jesse Puljujärvi who had become a great depth piece after re-signing with the Oilers after his return from Finland in 2020.

«Twenty games in and I have one goal. It's sad,» Puljujarvi told Finnish journalist Tommi Seppälä, of Puljujärvi interview' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>YLE News agency, on Tuesday evening. «I've been thinking a lot how to do things differently. Right now, I just don't have the answer.

Of course I'd like to be a productive top-line player,» Puljujärvi said in his native Finnish, as translated by Seppälä. «But right now, it looks like I can't do that in NHL. Maybe some other league.»

His return was welcomed by Ken Holland and the Oilers fans after putting up solid numbers in the last two seasons, totaling 61 points in 120 games.

It sounds like Puljujärvi is lacking confidence right now, which would explain why his utilization has decreased over this past season.

Here's hoping the youngster can recover in the meantime, there are a lot of games left to recover.
