Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers reportedly in advanced stages
What once seemed like a longshot has suddenly become a realistic possibility once again. When the New York Rangers acquired Vladimir Tarasenko the hockey world immediately felt a trade for Patrick Kane to as off the table. But over the last 24-hours news has spread and not only does it seem like that is no longer the case but it appears a deal is much closer than anyone even realized.
Yesterday Larry Brooks of the New York Post provided information that a deal between the teams was no longer off the table. According to Brooks, General Manager Chris Drury has his sights set on acquiring Kane.
According to sources, the Rangers have signaled they will try to make it work if Kane who has yet to declare his intentions is willing to waive his no-move clause in order to come to New York. We are told interest has not waned in the least since the acquisition of Vladimir Tarasenko from St. Louis on Feb. 10.
That, and not an additional fourth-liner, is the game Drury is hunting.
Today though that information has gone even a step further. According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, the conversations are actually in advanced stages.
Based on conversations I've had with sources around the league, the behind-the-scenes talks with the Rangers were more advanced than have been reported.
The Rangers have very few options to create the necessary cap space to complete a deal. For this deal to happen the Rangers will have to make significant roster moves by Saturday to procure enough cap space to make the deal work.
Buckle up the next 9 days are going to be very entertaining.
