In the opening minute of tonight's game between the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers, Brad Marchand suffered what looks to be a horrific injury. In a harmless collision, Oilers' defenceman Darnell Nurse's skate makes contact just about Marchand's right ankle.
Marchand went down immediately in pain, but was able to get off the ice and ran down the tunnel to the locker rooms, reportedly with the assistance of both the Bruins' and Oilers' medical teams.
At the time of writing, not much else is known but the Sportsnet broadcast's confirmation of injury. However, the play looks horrifying, and we can only hope that Marchand is okay and will be able to return at some point.
Marchand, at 34 years of age, has continued his amazing career this season with 19 goals and 52 points in 50 games, while playing a critical role for one of the best teams the NHL has seen in the 2022-23 Bruins.
Update:
After being checked out by both medical teams it appears this was just put of an abundance of caution and Marchand avoided serious injury and returned to the bench.
