Yesterday, Murat Ates of the Athletic reported that Winnipeg Jets' centreman Mark Scheifele has been included in preliminary trade discussions, part of a larger deal that may spark a re-tool or rebuild of the team.

With Scheifele's odd press conference to end the season hinting towards the possibility of a move, and Pierre-Luc Dubois' apparent desire to be shipped out as well, the Jets seem to be in total turmoil right now. Also without a head coach, the organization as a whole is operating without any direction at this point.

However, trading those two players could net the team assets to be immediately competitive, or begin a rebuild. The Jets still do have quality players in Morrissey, Ehlers, Hellebuyck, and more, but with repeated playoff failures and inconsistent regular season performances, fans, players, and the organization alike seem ready for a change.

With 29 goals and 70 points in 67 games last season, Scheifele is still a great offensive player at 29 years of age. A good return for him in a trade would be an assortment of draft picks and young roster players, or perhaps some prospects not yet ready for the NHL.

Look for Scheifele and a few other Jets to be moved around the draft and free agency, perhaps in line with their new coach hire, as they navigate these uncertain waters.
