Hockey Player Tragically Passes Away at 37 Years of Age Following Altercation Outside a Nightclub

A fight outside of a nightclub in Russia has left a hockey player dead after multiple blows to the head, while police investigate the incident

The hockey community in Russia is in mourning following the sudden passing of a hockey player at just 37 years of age. Police are now investigating the death of Artem Tortochakov.

A player in the HC Metallurg system, Artem Tortochakov died in hospital on the night of Nov. 3 with witnesses saying he and another man fought outside a bar late at night. According to Ria Novatsi, an investigation has been launched.

"The press service of the Investigative Committee told RIA Novosti that a criminal case has been opened against a 25-year-old resident of Abakan regarding the death of a 37-year-old man as a result of a fight. According to investigators, on the night of November 3, the deceased and the suspect had a fight while near one of the entertainment establishments in Abakan. Afterwards, the suspect struck the victim several times with his hands and a kick in the head. Then the fight moved further away from the establishment.

The victim was taken to the hospital, however, despite the resuscitation measures taken, it was not possible to save the man."

A forensic expert told Ria Novatsi that Artem Tortochakov died due to a traumatic brain injury.

Translation: "A hockey player of Metallurg Khakassia died after a fight near a nightclub in Abakan

A source in the investigative committee told RIA Novosti that there was a conflict between 37-year-old hockey player Artem Tortochakov and a 25-year-old resident of Abakan, which led to the death of the athlete."

There is no word on how long the investigation might take. Our sincere condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Artem Tortochakov. His death comes about a week after the one-year anniversary of the passing of hockey player Adam Johnson during a game in Britain.
