Ever since he arrived in the NHL as one of the most hyped prospects in the history of the league, Connor Bedard has had a major target on his back, and it's slowed down his development in a huge way this season.
After a slow start, Bedard has turned things around quickly, but on Saturday afternoon against the Calgary Flames, he was once again targeted, this time by Calgary's Martin Pospisil.
Early in the game, Bedard was on fire with several big scoring opportunities, and after that, young forward Pospisil tried to make an impact by getting very physical with No. 98.
Unfortunately it came in illegal fashion, as he hit the former No. 1 overall pick right in the head, with the officials somehow missing the call and not penalizing the Flames on the play.
Unsurprisingly, veteran captain Nick Foligno was not happy with how it played out, as he went after Pospisil in the face off circle, challenging the 24-year old to a fight because of his actions.
However, Pospisil wasn't having any of it, as he turned down the fight with the Blackhawks captain, with the game staying very, very physical since the hit on Bedard.
Bedard has since bounced back in a huge way with a goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second period, but given how physical opponents have been with him, it's no shock that his teammates are frustrated.
Given his history during his short career, this is one that could land Pospisil in hot water with the NHL's Department of Player Safety, so now we will wait and see if there's any supplemental discipline for him on the play despite no penalty being called.
