Travis Green reveals Dougie Hamilton's season is likely over after the defender suffered a serious injury earlier this year.

The New Jersey Devils were hoping to build off of a strong season. Last year. The team made it to the second round of a Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. Unfortunately, the Devils ran into a hot Carolina Hurricanes team and were eliminated from the postseason.

This year the team had high hopes and was hoping to build off of last year's strong showing. Unfortunately when last season everything went right, this season. Everything went wrong. Now the Devils find themselves fighting for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Devils currently sit behind the Washington Capitals, New York, Islanders and Detroit Red Wings for that final Wild Card spot. If New Jersey hopes to make the playoffs, it is going to take a lot of luck at this point to close the gap. Today Devil's head coach Travis Green announced that if the team was going to make the playoffs they'd have to do it without Dougie Hamilton.

Interim head coach Travis Green says "we probably won't see Dougie (Hamilton)" return this season and there's a "chance" that Nathan Bastian might be able to play.

Hamilton was one of New Jersey's key acquisitions last summer and hasn't played since November 28th. There was some hope that the defender could find his way back into the lineup late in the season, but now it appears that is no longer the case. In 20 games this season Hamilton had scored five goals and added 11 assists.
