Multiple teams interested in hiring Kyle Dubas
Earlier this week news broke that the Toronto Maple Leafs had decided that they were unwilling to offer Kyle Dubas a contract extension. Dubas had initially received a 5-year contract after replacing Lou Lamoriello. Unfortunately for Dubas his promising start has not resulted in any post season success.
Due to the lack of success though Brendan Shanahan was unwilling to offer Dubas additional years on his contract. Last season the Leafs put up a franchise record 115 points, but that's not enough. Dubas will need to deliver at least the second round of the playoffs this year or he's likely out the door.
But according to Chris Johnson if The Daily Faceoff, after this news broke he received multiple text messages from executives from many other teams share that they'd happily hire Dubas if he were to be let go by the Leafs.
Unlike many General Manager's in the league, Dubas has opted to invest heavily into his plan and he has refused to deviate from it. Whether you believe in his style or not, you have to respect his committments to how he feels the game should be played. If the Leafs do fire Dubas it feels like they have sat through his growing pains and will simply be handing another team an NHL ready for executive.
