Player is forced to undergo emergency surgery after a check, doctors forced to remove one of his organs
Hockey is a physical sport, a sport that can lead to serious injury, but rarely do you hear of an injury this significant. Over the weekend 23-year-old Yegor Stronov was involved in a collision with an opponent that sent him hard to the ice.
Stronov currently plays for Dynamo-Altay of the VHL and was recipient of the massive hit from Yegor Filippov. The hit left Stronov clearly shaken. After the hit Stronov was examined at which time the examination revealed severe damage. The team released the following statement to Sport24.ru:
The examination revealed damage to the left kidney. During the surgery the doctors failed to save the organ, so unfortunately the kidney had to be removed.
We would like to express our deepest words of support to relatives and friends of Yegor!
After undergoing surgery Stronov is reportedly in serious but stable condition at this time. He's expected to make a full recovery.
